What Kind Of Film Do I Have?

This is super 8mm film…also known as S-8. Usually recorded in 20 to 24 frames/sec and the ability to have a separate audio track imbedded in the celluloid edge on the opposite side of the transport holes that have a rectangular shape. Regular or Standard 8mm Film
Super 8mm Film This film has the same 8mm width as the one above and is known as regular or standard 8mm film. Please note that the holes in the filmstrip are larger than S-8 and make an almost perfect square. This was the first consumer recordable celluloid strip which had no capability of recording audio…therefore your footage will always be silent
The film is known as 16mm film. This film was, and still is, widely used by film professionals, motion picture companies and was also used during WWII on almost every B-series bomber to document the events of war. If you would cut 25 feet of this film in an exact half, you would end up with a perfect 50 foot reel of S-8mm film. 16mm film had audio recording capabilities as well. The equipment was so advanced, the operator could chose between magnetic and optical audio recording. 16mm Film
35mm Celluloid Film This is the most common film in the industry…the 35mm celluloid. This film is very special, because it was made for two groups of users: the still photographer and the motion picture producer. This film is still standard in Hollywood production and is also used in 35mm still cameras around the world.
This is the 70mm celluloid film…..a so called "Lucas" or "Spielberg" "strip"…meaning: "only Hollywood experts will use this film". It has several unique features such as: it is extremely expensive; there are only two manufacturers worldwide and it is very difficult to cut, since every misalignment will show over the complete bandwidth. 70mm celluloid film
