An alternative to DVD and CD-ROM is the Video Compact Disk. It is a digital format and available in two quality grades. The VCD, which is equivalent to a VHS tape, displaying 225 lines in MPEG-1 format, or the S-VCD, which is equivalent to S-VHS quality, displaying 400 lines in MPEG-2 quality. Those formats are widely accepted in the Asian Market like Korea and China. The
newer DVD players in the US may have video disc reading capabilities….but the unit MUST HAVE a video CD emblem on the front or mention the VCD/S-VCD capability in the specs of the owner's manual.
Compared to the DVD, the VCD only allows the imbedding of stereo sound and no surround sound can be provided on either VCD or S-VCD.
A VCD can hold a maximum of 69 minutes in MPEG-1 and a S-VCD can hold a maximum of 34 minutes of video information in MPEG-2 format.
Your video-CD is delivered in a clear plastic case. Should you want a color or b&w label and/or a front and back cover, an additional charge per printable side applies.
